Drawing No. 1Part of the Craft Cubed festival, the exhibition Drawing No. 1 is taking place at Abbotsford Convent and features, among other things, a giant squid. The Craft Cubed festival’s theme this year is ‘childhood’, and the six different artists in Drawing No. 1 have chosen to explore this through recreating artifacts from their collective memories. Strange, scary and funny, the works, like museum exhibits, show us a world that existed for us all once, but now is preserved only in our memories. The works span painting, photography, video, animation, sound and installation. Drawing No. 1 is curated by Jemila MacEwan and features artists Julia Atkinson, Rebecca Hayes, MONA FRANK and S.P. Jamestowne, Finn Robertson and Jemila MacEwan. Artist Rebecca Hayes is a current RMIT student studying animation, who received quick response funding from RMIT Union Arts for the project.
